EVENT: Cheviot Final Round NZ Cross Country Series
DATE: 15th May 2010
BIKE: 2010 Kawasaki KX450
RACE DAY:
The week leading up to the event was quite stressful as I was going into the final knowing that to win
the championship I needed to beat my team mate Hermy. The weather was beautiful in Cheviot, with
the warm sunshine and very little wind, it was set to be a great day. The track looked open but dusty.
The seniors had a look lap which was quite good as it settled the nerves and the body. The start line
was made up of 82 riders awaiting the shot gun start. I got a fairly good jump off the start and passed
a few riders around the first two turns, which was good as the dust was very thick on the main track.
After lap one I was sitting in 8th place with Luke hot on my heels. Hermy was a little way back but I
knew that I needed to get myself into a good pace and keep my head down.
I had briefed my pit crew about taking no risks with re-fuelling so I was in on lap four for fuel and new
goggles. My lap times and race position remained consistent.
I ended a great race by winning the Vets class (35-44yrs) and finished the series 11th overall.
Big thanks to my pit man Hodgey for being there every round and encouraging me to keep going.
Thanks to my wife for supporting me throughout the season. Thanks to Kimmy and Kris and the whole
Metalman KMP team for another great season. Thank you to the team sponsors for helping us
throughout the season. Special thanks to Mike Ramsey for his guidance and advice throughout the
year. Thanks to my personal sponsors Richie from Moto SR for all the suspension work and Matt Bell
from MB Electrical. Thanks to my team mates Hermy, Luke and Cam for another fun year with heaps
of laughs and good times. Lastly to my other supporters who I email after each race, thanks heaps for
the words of encouragement. |

Christchurch
The boys arrived at home and we headed off the next morning for Wellington where we missed the ferry by five minutes, so we visited Te Papa with the Britton Bike (awesome). Then off to the Bee Hive which filled in the morning and then we made our way to Cheviot.
We woke to fine weather and on arriving at the track conditions were going to be very dusty. We had a look lap and yes dust was going to be the problem. My Michelin AFC motorbike didn’t start first kick so going round the first corner in 30th place wasn’t a good start to the day. I tried to ride a consistent race and seemed to be just behind Moorf where I couldn’t see him all day which made it hard to try and real him in. This gap seemed to stay the same all day.
I enjoyed the race track and my bike performed well, I just couldn’t catch Moorf and whoever won out of us two on the day won the championship.
This year seemed to be the year I just couldn’t match the pace (perhaps the old age is kicking in). If it’s any consolation at least my own team mate won the championship which is a great result and he deserves it fully.
I have really enjoyed being part of the KMP Metalman Team this season you have all provided all of entertainment and support which has been much appreciated. Sully from Bike Fix Racing was an awesome person to have as my mechanic and support person.
I would like to say a big thanks to all my sponsors:

BDB Builders Northern Accessories Silkolene R K Racing Chain
SHOEI Helmets Asterisk Knee Braces BackBusters Hand Guards Polisport Plastics
I will finish off by saying: “I will be back next year as I have one more achievement I want to achieve”.

| Jason Dickey - Final Cheviot Jason Dickey
It was looking like a fine day ahead as we headed to the track at 7.00am. As we arrived it looked as through it would be a reasonably fast track. Time ticked by as we started our Look Lap, which didn’t take very long as the track was only nine kms long. Once we got back I filled up with gas and headed to the start line I was right on the outside of the line which I consider to be the best position. As we waited nervously for 5 minutes we finally got under way.
“BANG” My bike started first kick and I got the jump on the rest of the field (Yeah ha everyones dream the HOLESHOT Oh and remember the deal with the holeshot guys ! Im in the money!!! Hehehehe off around the first corner I was out of the dust, then halfway round Jordan Wilson passed me and took slight advantage into the second lap I felt good and was riding consistently and that’s all I needed to do, until with three and a half laps to go the tip broke off the spark plug (Bugger!) resulting in a major loss of power it was a mission. I carefully rode it to the finish but was passed on the last lap by Matthew Quirke who posted the fastest lap and and was riding well and was happy being passed by a mate and a good rider. In the end I finished 3rd overall and 2nd 125 which was a great result I was was happy with.
I would really like to thank the KMP Metalman team and all its supporters for all the great support and encouragement they have given me over the series with my riding and the help and guidance to make me a better rider, I couldn’t have done it without them, so thanks heaps to everyone.
Im looking forward to next year and doing it all again and posting some good results again.

CHEVIOT CHRISTCHURCH
I picked the team van up early Thursday morning and headed out to kimmys to get everybody else. The van was filled with Dad, Kimmy, Kris, Cam, my girl friend Rachel and I. We all left the bike park and headed to Norsewood to pick Hermy and Sully up. Norsewood was just a short seven hour drive south. After staying the night at Hermys, we were up at the crack of dawn to race to wellington to catch the Ferry. When we got into wellington there had been a car accident which backed up traffic and made us miss the Ferry. Everyone was pissed off because the next ferry was sailing at two which meant we wouldn’t get into cheviot until 9.30.
After mucking around in Wellington for half a day we caught the ferry, and made the journey across the straight. We arrived at Cheviot at 9.30 as expected and all went strait to bed. I woke up in the morning pumped and ready to go. It was only a 15 Minute drive out to the track. It was pretty cold because the sun hadn’t come up yet but after setting the pits up I came right and you could tell it was going to be a nice sunny day. The field lined up for the look lap and we all went out and did that. It was very dusty to the point where you where riding along blind and now the sun had come up as well so you couldn’t see on the hills. The track was fast just like every other round we had been to but at least this time the marking was good. The terrain was very rolling and there were not a lot of rocks around which surprised me. The track was quite short at only 18 Kilometers which meant lots of laps and with the soil being as lite and fluffy as it was it would cut up fast. After the look lap I felt really positive and had a good feeling about the track because it looked really fun. We lined up at the start which was a good length, and had a few corners around hay bales to break us up before we headed out onto the track. BANG! The shot gun went off and I ran to my bike. I started it first kick and got a mint jump, the straight was long and the bigger bikes just managed to get that little bit extra length into the corner. After the start paddock I was sitting around tenth. I couldn’t be leave how dusty it was, I was riding along blind and hit something I went down and I dropped the end of my handle bar on my finger it was bloody sore I got up and a few people passed me. I came through the pits right behind moorf we both got on the gas and started catching up we had a good flow going and then I stalled my bike on a steep switch back section, luckily I got going before I was passed. I spent the rest of the lap catching back up to Moorf. From lap three on wards I was on a mission and had started to pull up the pack and lay some decent lap times down. I had been battling Sam Greenslade and John O’Dea the whole second half of the race. We headed into the last lap I had a good gap on Greenslade and was hot on Odeas heals. Not long out of the pits I passed O’Dea and I was pulling away. At this point I was running 5th Overall and 1st in class. I was not far from then end working my way through lappers. I came to pass one in a puggy section and changed my line I hit I big lump and endoed down the hill. I landed on my head and when I got up I couldn’t see straight and was a tad dizzy. By the time I got up both O’Dea and Greenslade had passed me. I finished the race and didn’t manage to lose anymore positions, but I was a little disappointed in myself. Thanks everybody for helping me through such a bad season. Huge thanks to Kimmy and Kris and the KMP MetalMan team, Thanks to Mike Wilkins and Kawasaki NZ, Clark at Metal Man Nationwide, Neil at KRP Triple Clamps, Sandy at Chiropractic and sport, Richie at Moto SR for the RG3 suspension, Vege at Kiwi Rider, Scott and Brownie at Mr Motocycles, Bruce and Vanessa at BDB, Jason and Tarina at Moorfield Motors, Seadon and Matt at ILABB, The Crew at Whites, The crew at Northerns, Hodgy at Premier Kitchens, Thanks to my parents and family for always backing me.

PIT CREW: Kimmy, Dad and Mum
EVENT: NZ Cross Country Nationals Round 4 and Final
This was the last race of the series, I was running 2nd in the 2-stroke under class.
It had been a long drive down to Christchurch, with only a few minor miss haps along the way. Missing the ferry on Friday morning by 10minutes was very gutting. Although we managed to have fun in wellington.
Finally after a small drive (not) we made it to our destination – Cheviot.
Settling in to our extremely flash 2star motel, I hit the hay prepping myself for the big day that was ahead.
Saturday morning we arrived at the track, set up and went walkabout to have a gaze at the track. The marking was good, although it was going to be fast. I was feeling a little bit nervous to be honest, this had a slight effect on me mentally.
The start was fast, I had a great jump and was apparently in the top 20 when I was tangled up with another rider and went down hard, braking my front guard. Eventually getting away again, I was in a bad position. Passing as many riders through the dust, with a few high speed crashes I came round in 84th and 10th in class. With a lot of work to do I managed my way up to 3rd in class, having not a lot of energy left making a few to many mistakes I couldn’t hold off Stefan Cook who was having a good day. Disappointed having to take 4th on the day.
Ariete goggles were a treat to have, they done an exceptional job on keeping the dust out. Great day had by all well done to the boys for their results and myself with a 3rd 0-200cc in New Zealand.
As this was my first year in the seniors I am very happy with my achievements. Cheers to everyone who has helped me throughout the season with bike prep or even some well needed advice as I still have a lot to learn.
Thanks mum and dad for following me around the country side, you guys do so much.
Kimmy and Kris from KMP have also done an extreme amount for me which I am most grateful for.
What an awesome series.

PIT CREW: KMP Metal Man Legends
EVENT: New Zealand Cross Country Nationals Rd 1 (Juniors)
It was a long weekend as we headed off on Thursday and stayed at Taihape the night on the way down to Martinborough. We stayed just down the road so it was a short drive to the track for race day.
The weather on race morning was nice and fresh and looked like it would be a nice day.
The track was nice and hard and rocks everywhere. After the look lap we all raced back to the start paddock to get best positions.I was around 10th at the first corner but by the time we were out of the start paddock I was up into 4th, as we headed back towards the pits I worked my way into 2nd behind Jordan Wilson on the second lap, I had a minor washout and Ben Exter passed me, I quickly caught back up and passed him and then pushed on.
Half way round the fourth lap it started to rain which made it very slippery on the shined up hard tracks and changed the race for some riders in the end. I finished 2nd with a 2 minute gap over 3rd, the rain didn’t stop for the rest off the day and most of the senior had a hard time completing the race .
Thanks to my parents and everyone that helped me get to this race and finish.
Cheers Jase

| Jason Moorfield - Martinborough EVENT: Martinborough Round Three NZ Cross Country Series
DATE: 1 May 2010
BIKE: 2010 Kawasaki KX450
RACE DAY:
Arriving at the track at about 7.45am, the team all mucked in to set up our pit area. The junior race started at about 10.30am with 33 riders lined up at the start line. With a bang the shot gun signaled the start. They were off and this also signaled time for me to get prepared for the start of my race. With half an hour of the junior race to go, it started to rain and become very cold. This was going to be our first wet race of the series. At the senior briefing, we were told the track was 30km long and it could be slippery (what an under statement)
With 92 senior riders lined up, standing in the rain, the shotgun went off after some delay.
I got a reasonable start passing the pits within the top 15 riders. Once out on the track, you could see how much rain we had already had and the rain was still coming. 36 min to complete lap one. I was soon aware it was going to be a long day at the office.
About half way around the second lap, I came upon a hill in the race with about 10 riders settling at the bottom and more riders stuck above the narrow track. I tried to weave my way around the other riders but soon became stuck as well. With a lot of pushing and some help from the other riders, I made it up. The track was becoming difficult and the second lap took me around 48 minutes to complete. Arriving at that same hill on the third lap, there were bikes and riders laying and steaming everywhere. Hermy turned up a few seconds taker. We helped each other get our bikes up one at a time.
Once we made it up, Luke our other member of the Metalman KMP team turned up and we decided to stick together for that lap. Helping each other a few times on the harder parts of the track, lap three was completed after 55 mins. With one lap to go, I pitted for fuel and clean gloves. Some parts of the track had been cut out for my final lap which made that lap a bit of a lottery. After being out on the final lap for 45 mins, I was glad to see the finish. What a wet, hard day we had just had. My results for the day were 21st overall and 2nd in class. This round was also the final round for the North Island Series which I finished 1st in the Vets class 35-44 years and 8th overall, the Metalman KMP team taking the win for the teams class.
Thanks to you all and I am looking forward to a big finish in the South Island next weekend.

MARTINBOROUGH
We made the long drive down to martinborough on Friday and stayed in a shearers quarters ten minutes from the track. We woke up in the morning to an overcast day. After the juniors race the sky opened up and started to rain really hard. Everyone was lined up on the start soaking waiting for the shot gun. BANG! I got an average start around 20th. It was really slippery like riding on ice. The track was pretty long at 30 kilometers. On the second lap there were a few hills that had people all over them stuck. I also got stuck but when I got to the top Hermy and Moorf where there and we worked as a team for the rest of the lap helping each other. It went backwards from their and to sum it up rode like a bunny and finished a really disappointing 31st overall. It is probably my worst result ever. I hope at the last round I can get my shit together and pull a decent result and regain some respect.

Event 3rd Round of NZ X-Country Martinborough
The weather was fine on arrival but as the juniors finished there race it started to pack it in. The track was 30kms long and with rain coming on in it was shaping up to be a good day in the mud.
I didn’t get a good start but tried to move up the field slowly trying not to make any mistakes. I past Luke Ramsey then I dropped it going up hill breaking my front brake lever. It made it hard to get back to the pits but I managed only dropping a few spots. I then charged what I thought was hard back up a few spots to only find about 20 bikes stuck on an uphill. This cost time and distance from the lead riders. I rode with Moorf and we had a good pace going. On lap three we arrived at the first uphill with this time 35 riders stuck. Me and Moorf helped each other get up around the side of the hill and Luke rode with us until the last uphill where more bikes are stuck. Moorf got up me and Luke helped each other then rode back started to get cold.
Lap four was our last lap me and Luke rode together until the last uphill where we got Luke up .He kept going as he was cold I realized my race was not a good one so stayed to help some girls and guys up till the point I couldn’t get my bike up! Wayne Finlayson rode mine up I helped Cam Downing up then we rode back to the finish line. What a great relief. I felt after the race this should have been my day in the mud as I love it but it just didn’t work out that way. A big thanks too my sponsors’ and pitcrew for there help on the day.

EVENT: NZ Cross Country Nationals Round 3/Martinborough & NI Finals – 1st May 2010
This was the final round of the North Island Series and the third round of the NZ series.
We had a cruisey trip down to the Wellington district with great weather. I was feeling really good about racing the next day and knew what I needed to do to secure a place in the NI series and hold my points for the NZ series.
RACE DAY
Woke up early – the weather was mint, bit windy but the sun was shining. We headed off to the race venue and set up. Before we knew it the juniors were away racing. The track was extremely dry and hard. I secretly wanted a wet race as I quite enjoy a bit of mud. To my surprise on the last lap of the juniors, it pissed down and didn’t stop for the remainder of the day. To some this was really disappointing, but I thought mint!
We waited on the start line for a good 10 minutes if not more. The consistent rain had us totally drenched before we started. “BANG”, I got a stink start of about 30th.
I was feeling mint. There was mud and water everywhere. The laps were massive with difficult muddy hills which were near impossible.
At the end of my third lap, I was soaked, I have never been so cold before and could have easily just given up – thanks Kimmy and Mike for pitting me and for giving me the motivation and encouragement to go back out and do that last lap.
It was on that last lap that I bumped into Hermy, it was the last up-hill. We spent a lot of time trying to get around the hill but failed, finally ‘manning–up’ we gave it another go.
Hermy made it and then so did I with a helping hand from Hermy – thanks mate! After 4 hours of mud, rain and cold, I made it back.
I feel that this race has made me step-up in this sport and that hopefully I have earn’t a little respect as a young senior.
Thanks so much to the Dickey family and their camper, for cleaning me up with hot water and some hot food – cheers guys. Thanks also to everyone in the team and the supporters and sponsors who make this all possible.

Round 2 of NZ Champs Nelson
Some of the boys (Ramseys & Kimmy) arrived to pick Sully and myself up.
We headed for Wellington that night, interested in just getting there and catching the boat in the morning.
Saturday soon came with good weather.
We got to St Arnaud and the other boys arrived soon after (Moorf, Cam & Hoggy). We pre walked a couple of km’s, as every time we have been here, it has been a road race on stones. This time it looked better from what we had walked. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case!
BANG goes the gun. I got a reasonably a good start but 2kms into it there was a big pile up with bikes going over. My bike got caught up, breaking the front brake lever. I rode the first lap without it, then into the pits where my awesome pit crew soon had me back out.
Lap 3 saw Hugh Lintofts bike parked up and I was now 3rd in my class. On Lap 5 I saw Moorf on the side of the track - only one more rider to pass.
At the 2 hour mark I managed to pass him and move slowly up the field in the overalls.
I hated the track as it was TOO FAST and too dangerous but took the win in my class anyway. I didn’t feel I had ridden good enough to deserve the win but sometimes that’s racing.
I’ve had it the other way round too, so it’s not always the way you want it to work out.
My KMP Metalman Kawasaki Michelin tyred bike, worked so well and hopefully the next round will be a typical North Island track.
I can’t wait.
A big thanks to all the pit crew

This was the second round of the New Zealand Series, I had already proven that I am capable to run top 3 in the 0-200cc class. I was pretty pumped and keen to do it again!
Once again we had another look lap, which I thought was mint and took it to my advantage.
We had a massive start straight, tons of bikes. I took off mint, going around Hermy to follow Luke. The track was insanely fast, but to be honest I didn’t really mind it, actually enjoyed it.
I had a ball, loved every minute of the 3 hour.
Finishing 3rd in class and 17th overall. I’m stoked with myself, being my first senior series.
Well done to the boys, bummer for Moorf, running out of fuel (AGAIN).

I was feeling a little second hand going into the Nelson round, but I knew what I had to do to keep the title in my sights.
Kimmy, Dad and I left for Nelson on Thursday morning and picked Hermy and Sully up from Norsewood on the way.
We arrived at ST Arnard where we stayed the night.
The Factory riders, Jason and Cam met us there after they flew in. We woke up at seven and headed ten minutes down the road to the track. We set up the pits and got ready.
There were no North Island juniors at this round.
The start was massive, so it would spread everyone out. I ran to my bike and it started first kick. By the end of the straight, I was around 15th. I passed a few people on the first lap and came through the pits in 11th.
The track was very fast and the laps short, at only 15 minutes. There were a lot of rocks.
I was alright injury wise when the adrenaline started pumping. I worked my way up the field as the race wore on. I finished 6th overall and 2nd in class.
Thanks to Kimmy and Dad for the help during last week.
Thanks to my sponsors.

Jason Dickey #7
Pit Crew: Dad, KMP Boys(Men)
I got up and had some Coco Pops for breakfast and then we gapped it to the track which was about a 40 min drive.
The track looked fast so the guys changed my back sprocket down one tooth. The track was 10 km long and the look lap didn’t take very long. I filled up and headed back to the start line. The Start was on a slope so every one had a hard time keeping their bikes standing.
The gun went off and we all ran to our bikes, my bike started first kick and I got the holeshot around the first corner, Jordan Wilson had the run up the outside and past me. I chased him for the first lap but couldn’t keep his pace. So I decided to ride clever and just keep a good pace.
I felt I rode a consistent race and didn’t come off, the track cut up a bit and was really rough through a couple of sections. It was very fast which was a concern throughout the race, with our average speeds being 65ks.
Once again I finished second overall and won my 125cc Class.
With that result I ended up being 2nd Overall for the North Island which I was pretty stoked with, Well done to Jordan Wilson who came 1st Overall and Joel Harris who came in 3rd.
Looking forward to another close race with the New Zealand Title up for grabs and racing in the South Island in Christchurch in a few weeks time.
Thanks to the KMP team for all their help and support as well as Mum and Dad for taking me to all these events.

Round 4 at Waipukurau and I knew this was my chance to get some points on the board as a few of the top runners from my class (0-200cc) weren’t going to be there. This round was the 4th for the North Island Series and Round 1 for the New Zealand Series.
We walked the track first thing after setting up our camp. We knew then it was going to be seriously fast.
The juniors went well, great race, well done to Jason Dickey who finished with another 2nd overall and 1st in class. Thumbs up bro!
Us seniors were keen and ready to go. My bike wasn’t falling apart this time, I felt confident. We ended up having to have a look lap, not many wanted one, but I took it to my advantage and had a good look.
The race went well, I felt really good, keeping up consistent lap times of 21-22 minute laps. I ran 21st overall and 3rd in class pretty much all day. The track was way too fast in my opinion and extremely dangerous. I felt for the land they had to use that they could have done it better by taking an extra few days to mark out, maybe just adding chicanes and taking us around the paddocks instead of through the middle, personally I felt the farm had a lot of potential.
Great race by my fellow team mates, Moorf, Hermy and Luke. Bummer for Luke, as he injured himself after a hard day of battling for 1st overall.
Great day had by all– cheers everyone!
Thanks to all those who made it possible, the pit crew, dad and mum, and all my sponsors and supporters. You guys are awesome!

Event was held over Three farms at Te Uku, with about a 12.5 km track.
I was feeling a bit weary as I had been at Area Schools Rugby trails for the
last three days before the race and also had a black eye and bruises all over so
Wasn’t looking forward much to racing, but off I went.
I didn’t get a good start and was about 20th around the first corner I quickly picked them of and pulled a minute gap over 3 place by the end of the first lap and was sitting in a comfortable second and was happy to be there. I ran in a consistent second for the rest of the race but was beaten by a KTM250 ridden by Jordan Wilson who was on fire and rode a very impressive race.
Next race is at Waipukuru and looking forward to that. At this stage I am running 1st Overall

Round 3 at Dickey’s farm in Raglan. I am pretty much out of the North Island Competition now due to bad luck and what not, so I know my focus is now for the New Zealand Series, which starts in Waipukurau on Sunday 11th April.
On the Sunday and Monday before the race, dad and Kimmy went to town on testing my new KX144. We got it reasonably good – cheers for that guys!
On the night before the race, we had a brief team meeting and a big feed at Kimmy’s. The riders stayed at the woolshed the night.
RACE DAY
We arrived at the venue bright and early as usual, mint day, bit overcast and a bit of wind.
Juniors got off nice and early, we were all raring to go.
Seniors all down on the line, bang!! I didn’t get the best of starts but was feeling good.
Making my way up, I let myself get pushed wide and my foot peg got caught on a broken fence, getting out of that I was on my way again.
Having a minor brakedown next lap, the barkbuster came up knocking the front brake hose, letting all the fluid out. Having no brakes for a lap, I made it home to the pits to get it fixed.
Out on the track again, not pushing it now, just having fun, I continued and finished well in 30th overall and 6th 2 stroke under.
Great day – cheers everyone!
Thanks to the pit crew, dad and mum, and to all sponsors and supporters.

I ran to my bike and got it going first kick but got shut out in the first corner. I had a bit of work to do because I was running around 20th. I had a good look on my first lap because the grass was really long, I pulled up into 12th. The track was 23 Kilometers long and was taking around 26 minutes to do. There were a lot of rocks and because of that the main line was really rough. The weather was really windy and hot so even right from the start I didn’t feel the best. I rode a steady race only crashing once and worked my way up to 4th to maintain that position and finish there. Big ups to Adrian Smith who cleaned everyone up on a 144.
